Throughout the month of May, improvisational comedy troupe ComedyCity-De Pere is celebrating a quarter century of making Northeast Wisconsin laugh. Founded in Oshkosh in May of 1987 by Betty Butcher, the troupe has slowly migrated north to their current location inside the Sports Corner Sports Bar & Grill at 500 Grant St. in downtown De Pere.

To celebrate, fans can get 25%** off admission for all shows throughout the month of May – $9 for adults & $7.50 for students, seniors & military. We will also have ComedySportz / ComedyCity alumni joining us on stage for every show throughout the month.

Fun facts…
• Over the last 25 years, we’ve performed over 6,000 shows for bazillions of adoring fans.
• Our troupe has had regular & semi-regular gigs at various locations in Oshkosh, Appleton, Neenah, Manitowoc, Kimberly, Bailey’s Harbor, Green Bay and De Pere.
• Saturday Night Live cast member Jason Sudeikis performed here in Green Bay – then as a member of the Kansas City ComedySportz troupe.
• Internet video sensation Matt Sloan (“Chad Vader”) got his start with ComedySportz-Green Bay
• ComedySportz / ComedyCity alums (and active players) have gone on to do workshops and perform with The Second City (Chicago), ImprovOlympic (Los Angeles) & Upright Citizens Brigade (LA).

• May, 1987 – ComedySportz family-friendly improv troupe founded in Oshkosh by Betty Butcher
• 1990 – First show @ Paper Valley in Appleton & Valley Inn in Neenah
• 1991 – First show @ the Radisson in Green Bay (Last show as well)
• 1992 – Jim Reilly becomes sole owner/manager of ComedySportz
• February, 1993 – First “permanent” home in Green Bay (123 ½ S. Washington Street – Above La Bon Femme French restaurant)
• May, 1994 – Last shows @ Paper Valley
• October, 1996 – Mike Eserkaln takes over ownership of the troupe
• April, 1999 – Second “permanent” Green Bay location (211 N. Washington)
• Summer, 2000 – ComedySportz-Green Bay ceases to exist, and ComedyCity-Green Bay is born
• May, 2005 – Third “permanent” home in the old library in downtown De Pere, WI
• September, 2005 – First Venture Theatre production
• March, 2009 – Fourth “permanent” home at the Sports Corner in De Pere, WI
• May, 2012 – ComedyCity De Pere celebrates 25 years of family-friendly improv

Just about every Saturday night, after the late ComedyCity show, we have a free late night show of some type.  There’s improv and stand up and a talk show and music and puppets and more.  Shows start about 11:15pm.  Did we mention they’re FREE?!?!

Located at the corner of 5th and Grant, The Sports Corner is a sports themed bar and grill that also hosts various meeting and banquet events.  The historic building that houses The Sports Corner opened in 1912 as the Hotel Roffers.
